BETTER
'Tis better, that I would sightless be,
And never see a blade of grass,
Or view the path, on which you pass;
Than fail in yon Eternity.
'Tis better, that my frame stay weak,
And never lift a heavy load,
Or run a race, on a dusty road;
Than let my soul, in bondage sleep.
'Tis better, that my lips stay mute,
And never sing a glad refrain,
Or have no voice to praise His name;
Than have a soul that's destitute.
'Tis better, that my ears unopened stay,
And never bear sweet lullabies,
Or listen to an infant's cry;
Than choose the night, instead of day.
'Tis better, that I, a pauper be,
And never know the touch of gold,
Or comfort, When I've grown old;
Than fail in ever knowing Thee.
